TYPES OF HEARING AIDS

A hearing aid is a highly sophisticated communication device containing a combination of microphone, amplifier and loudspeaker.

Modern hearing aids are small, elegant, unobtrusive devices and are barely visible when worn. They are available in a range of colours to match your hair colour, skin tone or your sense of style.

Depending on the style and model of your chosen aid, they can also offer a range of highly sophisticated hearing enhancement features. The latest hearing aids provide a far more natural sound; are easy to use and adjust; and have the technology to stream audio directly from your TV, mobile phone, radio etc.

Most hearing aid models are available with a choice of performance level. The basic models are simply designed to make speech easier to hear. Mid-range models are capable of shaping the sound more closely to suit your needs and adapt to changes in your environment, particularly when it is noisy. Top-level aids offer the richest and most natural sound quality in any situation.

The performance level you choose will likely depend on your hearing loss, your listening needs, your lifestyle, personal preferences and your budget.

 Invisible- In- The- Canal (IIC)

This custom-fitted style is inserted further into the ear canal than other styles, so it’s completely invisible* when worn. IIC hearing aids are designed to be removed daily to promote good ear health. For mild to moderate hearing loss.

* Individual results may vary.

Invisibility may vary based on your ear’s anatomy.

Receiver- In- Canal (RIC)

Barely visible when worn, the RIC style is an instrument in which the receiver, or speaker, is inside the ear canal. Thin electrical wires are used instead of a plastic acoustical tube, reducing distortion. RIC hearing aids provide a comfortable, open fit. For mild to moderate hearing loss.

Behind- The- Ear (BTE)

The hearing technology is housed in a casing that rests behind the ear. A clear plastic acoustical tube directs amplified sound into an earbud or a customized earmold that is fitted inside the ear canal. For moderate to severe hearing loss.
